Mount Kenya is located in central Kenya, approximately 150 km (93 miles) north of Nairobi, the capital city. The mountain straddles Meru, Kirinyaga, and Nyeri counties, with the main trekking access towns being Nanyuki (northwest), Chogoria (east), and Naro Moru (west). The Mount Kenya National Park surrounds the peak, with three main trekking approach roads leading to different route starting points: Sirimon Gate (northwest), Naro Moru Gate (west), and Chogoria Gate (east). The entire mountain is easily reachable by road (3–4 hours from Nairobi) or by charter flight to small airstrips near Nanyuki.
Travelers rate the 4-day Mount Kenya trek as an "incredible value" and "perfect for time-limited adventurers," with most achieving the summit of Point Lenana successfully. Reviewers praise the stunning alpine scenery, from equatorial rainforest to rocky lunar landscapes and glaciers, while noting that the short duration requires good fitness and proper acclimatization. Many highlight the Sirimon Route (descending via Chogoria) as the best 4-day option for scenic variety and easier altitude management. The overwhelming consensus is that while challenging, the sunrise views from the summit are unforgettable, and experienced guides make all the difference for success
