Kenya's beach holiday locations lie along its southeastern Indian Ocean coast, featuring Diani Beach, Watamu, Malindi, and the historic Lamu Archipelago (Lamu Island, Manda, Shela). Tanzania’s beach destinations are offshore islands in the Zanzibar Archipelago (Unguja/Zanzibar, Pemba) and the more remote Mafia Island, all accessed via the port city of Dar es Salaam. Kenya’s beaches are directly on the mainland coast, while Tanzania’s require short ferry or flights from the mainland. Both countries are easily connected by regional flights, with Zanzibar just a 1–2 hour hop from Mombasa or Nairobi..
Travelers consistently rate Kenya and Tanzania's beach holidays as a "tropical paradise," with many calling Diani Beach and Zanzibar's Nungwi "the most beautiful beaches they've ever seen." Reviewers praise the powdery white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and excellent snorkeling and diving on coral reefs teeming with marine life. Some note that Zanzibar's main beaches can feel crowded during peak season, while Kenya's Lamu offers a quieter, more authentic Swahili cultural experience. The overwhelming consensus is that both destinations deliver exceptional relaxation and beauty, with most travelers recommending at least 4–5 nights to fully unwind.
