Location Map

Mount Kenya is located in central Kenya, roughly 150 km (93 miles) north of Nairobi, with trekking access towns of Nanyuki, Naro Moru, and Chogoria. Kenya’s premier safari destinations lie to the south and west: the Masai Mara (250–300 km southwest), Amboseli (southeast, near Kilimanjaro), Lake Nakuru (west), and Samburu (north). The mountain sits centrally between these parks, making it a perfect hub—most safari areas are within a 3–6 hour drive or a short 45–60 minute flight from Mount Kenya region. This central location allows seamless itineraries, starting with the trek near Nanyuki, then heading south to the Mara or Amboseli for wildlife viewing, all easily connected via Nairobi as a transit point.

Rasset Adventures Client Review

Travelers consistently rate the Mount Kenya trek and safari combination as a "perfect adventure duo," praising the satisfying challenge of summiting Point Lenana followed by the thrill of spotting the Big Five on safari. Reviewers love the dramatic contrast between trekking through alpine glaciers and equatorial rainforest, then transitioning to savannah wildlife encounters in the Masai Mara or Amboseli. Many note that doing the trek first (requiring fitness and acclimatization) leaves you relaxed for the safari, though some recommend adding rest days between activities. The overwhelming consensus is that this combination offers incredible value, fewer crowds than Kilimanjaro, and an unforgettable blend of physical achievement and wildlife wonder
